Lankan help for Bhutan's health service by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi Healthcare and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has pledged to extend assistance and technical expertise to improve Bhutan's health service. This follows a discussion the Minister had with Bhutan's Health Minister Lyono Jigmi Singay and his delegation at the Health Ministry on Thursday. Both Ministers agreed to present a joint proposal aimed at further upgrading the health services in the respective countries to the South Asian Summit on Health to be held in Male'. "The discussion also focused on exchanging medical officers to further improve the health services in both countries," a Ministry spokesman said. While appreciating the Sri Lankan Government's assistance to strengthen human resources in the health sector in Bhutan, Minister Singay requested to provide internship training for Bhutan's medical students at Sri Lankan hospitals. The Bhutan Minister also requested training facilities for the nursing staff belonging to leading hospitals in Thimpu city. He requested to arrange training facilities at Nursing Training Schools or Universities. Minister de Silva agreed the Sri Lankan Government's assistance to Bhutan to develop the health sector. |
