President directs UGC to continue lectures

The President on her return to the island had discussions with the Secretary on the current situation regarding the non-academic union strike, states an Education Ministry press release.

She has directed her Senior Advisor K. Balapatabendi to have discussions with the union leaders at 4.00 pm today with the Ministry officials and the University Grants Commission.

Meanwhile, she has directed the University Grants Commission to instruct all Vice Chancellors to continue lectures and exams as usual.

The President has also instructed the University Grants Commission to continue processing the University enrolments for 2004.
