News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Mahinda Wijesekera has not returned assets worth Rs. 2.5 m: Police by Sarath Malalasekera Former Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Minister Mahinda Wijesekera has not returned assets worth Rs.2.5 million belonging to his former Ministry, Maligawatte Police told Colombo Additional Magistrate Leelamani Liyanaarachci yesterday. Police began investigations following a complaint by Fisheries Ministry Secretary and Additional Secretary that Wijesekera had not returned several items valued over Rs. 2.5 million belonging to the Ministry. Maligawatte Police yesterday filed a comprehensive report before the Magistrate. Sub Inspector Geethika Bodhipaha, OIC, Crimes Division Maligawatte Police, told the Colombo Additional Magistrate that police will file a plaint against the former Minister under the Public Property Act. The report stated that a motorcycle belonging to the Ministry had been recovered from the Matara Division while a jeep belonging to the Ministry had also been recovered from Hambantota Police area. SI Bodhipaha submitted to court that the former Minister had returned several items including computers and printers to the value of Rs.1.5 million, after investigations were commenced on a complaint by the Secretary and the Additional Secretary. SI Bodhipaha told court they have to record a statement from Wijesekera in connection with the investigations. Colombo DIG Sirisena Herath is directing investigations conducted by Colombo Central Senior SP Lucky Dissanayake and assisted by Colombo Central SP Hemantha Adikari. |
