Opposition supports for people-friendly projects - Wasantha Aluvihare

by L.B. Wijayasiri in Kandy

The Central Provincial Council Opposition Leader and former Chief Minister Wasantha Aluvihare said that the financial position of the council was not very sound, he said. He believed that the new Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake as an efficient administrator would be able to do a better service.

Aluvihare made those observations when he addressed representatives of the national media after opening the Opposition Leader's office of the Central Provincial Council at the Kandy Secretariat building.

The amount of funds available in the council at present, was only Rs. 880 million but they had to implement a large number of development projects in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Matale Districts.

The Chief Minister would be forced to confront with a number of challenges under the circumstances. Yet, he was hopeful that Chief Minister Ekanayake would handle the situation.

Aluvihare said that the Opposition would extend their support in the implementation of all good works and they would vehemently oppose any steps that would be harmful to the people.
