| Dates mixed up: Training program a non-event A three day in-house-orientation program organised by a veteran UNP Western Province WPC member ended in a 'soup' with the dates being mixed up. On the request of the organiser of the project Colombo district WPC Member Lakshman Abeygunarathne, some of the new MPs along with the old had gone to a hotel on the waters at Waikkala on the day they were asked to attend the inaugural ceremony. That was August 21. Gampaha district UNP member and the Deputy leader of the UNP Karu Jayasuriya was to be the chief guests of the day. As the members came into the hotel, the hotel management was surprised to see the presence of the UNP WPC member without prior information. The organiser of the workshop was absent. When the visitors told the `front office' that they had come for an in-house-orientation program organised by the UNP, the management was upset. They carefully went through the bookings and to their dismay found no entry made for an event of the nature described by the WPC MPs and the front officers told the members politely that there was no such program scheduled at their hotel from August 21 to 23. Subsequently after wires being crossed hither and thither they were told that a genuine mistake had occurred. The dates have been mixed up. The actual dates are from September 21 and not from August 21. However the members had a sumptuous lunch and they were said to have gone back calling the names of kith and kin of organisers. |
