Ratnapura St. Aloysius felicitates past staff members

A ceremony to felicitate the former members of the staff of St. Aloysius College, Ratnapura was held at the school premises recently.

The VIPs and the former teachers were welcomed by the Principal, M. Upali Jayatissa and conducted to the venue in a colourful procession headed by the school band.

Among the VIPs invited to make the awards were College's old boy and ANCL, Editorial Director, Karunaratne Paranawithana, DIG/Sabaragamuwa, Kingsley Ekanayake, HQI, Ratnapura, Wasantha Kumara, Provincial Director of Education, W. M. Gunatilleke, Principal, Sivali Vidyalaya, D. L. Gunaratne and former principal of St. Aloysius College, K. G. Kularatne.

Eighteen teachers were felicitated in this ceremony.

Shanaka needs help

W. Shanaka Sandaruwan, a year-6 student of R/Omalpe Maha Vidyalaya is suffering from an acute heart ailment and Dr. Prasad Krishnan, Cardiac Surgeon of Apollo Hospital has recommended an Aortic Valve Replacement as soon as possible to save his life. The surgery is estimated to cost Rs. 425,000.

His father W. Piyadasa of Deniyegedara Medawatugoda, Omalpe says he is a farmer who is not in a position to meet the expenses due to his economic plight. He seeks whatever financial assistance possible from philanthropists and generous public to save his son's life. Contributions can be made to Account No. 209-651199-7 at the People's Bank Embilipitiya branch.

Pathagama Wewa to be restored

Under the government's "Dahasak Maha Wew' project the renovation work of Dadagamuwa Pathagama Wewa', the largest Wewa in the Gampaha district will be inaugurated on August 25 at 9.22 a.m.

This is the first phase of the renovation project which includes a range of small lakes and village tanks in the district. This 'Pathagama Wewa' in Dadagamuwa in the Attanagalla Divisional Secretariat Division covers an area of 8 acres.

It has been in a dilapidated condition for over 5 decades.

With the renovation of this Wewa over seven hundred acres of paddy lands which had been abandoned for years can be cultivated.
