by Asanga Warnakulasuriya A notorious underworld character identified by Police as "Kudu Raja" was shot dead near Piliyandala town in broad daylight yesterday. Preliminary Police investigations had revealed that "Kudu Raja", a Dehiwela resident was travelling towards Kesbawa in his car when he spotted two suspects following in a motorbike. He had stopped at a grocery to avoid them, Police said. After a few minutes he had left the grocery thinking he avoided the suspects. The two suspects who waited outside the grocery on a motorcycle had pulled out a T56 and had repeatedly fired at "Kudu Raja" killing him on the spot, a witness told Police. Five shots had been fired by the suspects, Police said. Police suspect the killing to be linked with underworld warfare. On directions of the Mt. Lavinia SSP Willie Abeynayeka, Piliyandala OIC Inspector Nishantha Silva are investigating to nab the suspects who are still at large. |
