by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi Healthcare, Nutrition and Uva Wellassa Development Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has instructed officials to take swift measures to relocate the Haldummulla town which is facing a severe landslide threat. According to recent investigations, geologists suspect that a land area in extent of nearly 20 acres would face a severe landslide. Following these reports, steps have been taken to provide alternative lands for families living in those unsafe areas prone to landslides. Official sources said around 80 families are living in this area while there are nearly 20 business places. Minister de Silva has also instructed the officials to distribute suitable lands to those people and also to prepare a basic town plan including a bus stand once the land acquisition is over for the new town. Under the first stage, families in Haldummulla town will be re-settled in the alternative lands while under the second stage, businessmen who will be losing their business places due to the expansion of the Balangoda - Bandarawela road will be provided alternative places. |
