PM requests Susanthika to reconsider Dinesh Weerawansa reporting from Greece ATHENS, Thursday - Sri Lanka Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse today requested sprint queen Susanthika Jayasinghe to reconsider her decision of not competing at the Athens Olympic Games. The premier made this request when he visited the Sri Lanka contingent at the Athletes Olympic Village here. Rajapakse said its not the winning or losing that matters but how one compete in true Olympic spirit. He requested Jayasinghe to make use of the opportunity and run here. Rajapakse added that Jayasinghe made Sri Lanka proud at the last Olympic Games with a bronze medal and that she should try to run here as well to fulfill the expectations of the nation. Jayasinghe made a controversial pull out of the Games complaining of a fracture in her right chinbone but still came to Athens with no role to play, except for being the 'non-playing captain'. The premier said true sportsmen would take both winning and losing in true spirit. "You should be humble in victory and determined in defeat. Give out your best effort, it does not matter whether you win or lose," he said. The Prime Minister came to the Athletes Village today to meet the Sri Lanka contingent and wish them all success as the XXV111th summer Olympiad gets underway tomorrow. |
