Sarasaviya Film Week

Today's Film:

Sudu Kaluwara

The annual Sarasaviya Film Festival, the prelude to the Sarasaviya Film Awards ceremony to be held on August 19, is now being held at the Regal Cinema, Colombo.

Today's movie is Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne's Sudu Kaluwara. Yakada Pihatu (Aug 14), Sulang Kirilli (Aug 15), Wekanda Walawwa (Aug 16) and Sakman Maluwa (Aug 17) are the others in the line-up. Hitha Honda Pisso, the highest grossing Sinhala film of 2003, was screened earlier.

Twenty six Sinhala movies screened last year will be competing for 30 awards at the Sarasaviya Film Awards ceremony. Thani Thatuwen Piyambanna will not be considered for awards on the director's request.

A novel feature this year is the Sarasaviya Cinema Pelahera, a two-day 'all about movies' festival at the BMICH, Colombo on August 17 and 18. This includes the screening of six world-class movies.

The Sarasaviya Awards ceremony will be webcast live this year for the first time.
