The President's office yesterday brought to the public notice how UNP politicians influenced school principals to get their nominees admitted to grade one last year. The President's office drew the attention of how former Public Administration, Management and Reforms Minister Vajira Abeywardene went out of his way by sending a private and confidential letter to Elpitiya Ananda Vidyalaya principal to get 10 students admitted to the school. In his letter he had instructed the principal to pay special attention to the list of names submitted by him when students were admitted to grade one of the school and ensure the admission of these students on a priority basis. He had informed the principal that a copy of the letter including the name list had been sent to Education Minister Dr. Karunasena Kodituwakku.
