Highest tea prices in July By S.M. Jiffrey Abdeen, Kandy South group correspondent The Rupee average for teas for July 2004 of Rs. 169/57 per kilogramme of tea has been the highest ever for this month according to a release by Messrs Forbes & Walkers Limited, one of the oldest and leading tea brokering firms in the island founded in 1881. The Rs. 169/57 shows a growth of Rs. 24/20 when compared with the Rs. 145/37 average per kilo for the same period last year. The High Grown average of Rs. 161/05 for July, 2004 shows a substantial growth of Rs. 46/51 per kilo when compared with the Rs. 114/54 average per kilo for the same period last year. The medium grown average of Rs. 142/50 per kilo recorded a growth of Rs. 22/99 per kilo when compared with the Rs. 119/51 during the same period last year. The Low Grown average of Rs. 179/68 per kilo for the month recorded a growth of Rs. 7/56 per kilo when compared with the Rs. 172/12 average per kilo during the same period last year. Brokers Messrs Forbes & Walkers said that the average of Rs. 165/18 per kilo from January to July 2004 reflects a growth of Rs. 21/08 per kilo when compared with the average of Rs. 144/10 per kilo during the same period last year. The High Grown average of Rs. 162/23 per kilo shows a growth of Rs. 29/57 per kilo when compared with the Rs. 132/66 average during the same period last year. The Medium Grown average of Rs. 144/40 also shows a growth of Rs. 23 per kilo when compared with the Rs. 121/40 average per kilo during 2003. The Low Grown average of Rs. 171/98 reflects a growth of Rs. 15/02 per kilo when compared with the Rs. 156/96 per kilo average during the same period last year. |
