Aislaby Group tops prices for orthodox teas by S. M. Jiffrey Abdeen - Kandy south group correspondent With the Uva quality season now on, Aislaby Group from Bandarawela again topped the prices for the orthodox teas for the upcountry region by selling an invoice of Broken Orange Pekoe (BOP) for Rs. 460 at the tea auctions held last week. The previous week too this estate topped the overall orthodox tea prices by selling a similar grade of tea for Rs. 475 per kilogramme. Uva Highlands Group also from Bandarawela was not far behind as it sold a line of Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings (BOPF) for Rs. 445 per kilogramme. The selling brokers for this line of tea was Eastern Brokers Limited. Kenilworth Group, Ginigathena maintained its position as the top seller for the medium grown tea by topping prices for BOP (Rs. 345) and BOPF (Rs. 224). The Kirkoswald Group too came up with a good price for Pekoe by fetching Rs. 350 per kilogramme. The other top prices for various regions were: Western Medium Grown: BOP Rs. 345 and BOPF Rs. 224 Kenilworth Group, Pekoe Rs. 270 Meddakanda Group. Western High Grown: BOP Rs. 242 Somerset Group and Gouraville Group BOPF Rs. 255 Alton Group, Pekoe Rs. 350 Kirkoswald Group. Nuwara Eliya Tea: BOP Rs. Court Lodge BOPF Rs. 234 Tommagong Estate, Pekoe Rs. 157 Tommagong Estate. Udapussellawa Tea: BOP Rs. 220 and BOPF Rs. 165 Luckyland Group, Pekoe Rs. 210 Mooloya Estate. Uva Teas: BOP Rs. 460 Aislaby Group, BOPF Rs. 445 Uva Highlands Group, Pekoe Rs. 300 Bambaragalla Uva Estate. Unorthodox Teas (CTC): Western High: PF 1 Rs. 196 Florence Estate, BP 1 Rs. 171 Florence Estate (both coming under Abbotsleigh Group) BPS Rs. 159 Florence Estate, Hatton. Uva High: PF 1 Rs. 192 Poonagalla Group, BP 1 Rs. 160 Kirklees Group (CTC), BPS Rs. 152 Spring Valley Group.
