India's water-baby plans to tame Palk Strait

from Upali Rupasinghe in New Delhi

India's ace swimmer Bula Chowdhury plans to swim across the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka on August 20.

Chowdhury popularly known as the water-baby of Bengal and the mother of a 10-year-old, if succeeds to tame the Palk Strait wouldn't just be a record crossing but the first woman in the world to have crossed the seven seas.

She has been a champion in the pool for years with superb performances at the Seoul Asian Games in 1986.

It took 15 months for her to get security clearance from the Indian Government to attempt to do what no woman has done before.

She is extremely confident and hopes her hard work will pay off.
