An evening of elegance:

Dancing Ambassadors from Tennessee

It was an evening of sheer elegance and a splendid performance on July 31 (Friday) at the BMICH. This is how I would sum up the performance of the Tennessee Children's Dance Ensemble (TCDE) which was on a one week tour (July 24-30) of Sri Lanka.

At the Limelight

The TCDE which comprised 24 girls aged between 9 to 19 performed in Kandy, Galle and Colombo to packed houses.

Known as the Goodwill Ambassadors for the State of Tennessee the young dancers certainly proved their mettle with an enthralling performance while learning a new culture and lifestyle.

As the producer of the show Dharshan Wijesooriya very aptly put it, dance comes not only from the body, it comes from the soul.

It is an expression of emotions and a display of pure athletic skill. Dance as an art form demands discipline, commitment and love for the art.

This is what the Tennessee Children's Dance Ensemble embodies, positioning their unique young dancers as role models for children everywhere as dancing Ambassadors of goodwill from Tennessee, USA.

The TCDE which is a nurturing ground for the young performers to take care of each other, also helps them overcome the various problems in life, establishing their dance skills.

This was clearly evident by their performance that Friday evening. It was two hours of great fun and top class entertainment.

Reggae Concert in Gampaha

A group of young reggae music enthusiasts are having a reggae musical extravaganza at the `Sanasa Hall' in Veyangoda on August 14, at 6.30 p.m. The concert will have many bands performing different versions of Reggae music dating down from the Bob Marley's days.

The organisers who call themselves the 'Gampaha Reggae Boys' have named the show 'Rohantha Reggae'. They are also expecting a large crowd to participate at the event and advise everybody hoping to turn up on that day to do so at their earliest as there is a big demand for tickets.
