Nepal to maoists: No unilateral ceasefire Kathmandu, Thursday (PTI,Xinha) Nepal government has said it favoured result-oriented peace talks with the Maoists but made it clear that Kathmandu would not call a unilateral ceasefire with the rebels, because of "bitter experience" in the past. The government is in favour of holding substantial and result-oriented talks with the Maoists in order to establish sustainable peace in the country, Nepalese Information Minister and government's spokesman Mohamad Mohasin said. Noting that dialogue with the rebels is the main objective of the coalition government, he said that before initiating formal dialogue there was a need to create an atmosphere of trust through holding informal chit-chats. "But, as per my information, no formal talk has yet begun," he said, adding the government will welcome whoever makes efforts to initiate dialogue with the Maoists. Meanwhile, another senior minister has said the present government is in no mood to announce a unilateral cease-fire to begin peace talks with the Maoists. -Meanwhile At least 24 people were wounded in a bomb blast in nepal's western city of Nepalgunj, The Kathmandu Post newspaper reported Thursday. The bomb blast occurred in the busiest marketplace of Nepalgunj, the largest city in western Nepal, some 600 km west of Kathmandu. |
