Singer sponsors Australia/Sri Lanka series Australia women's team will be in Sri Lanka from August 30 to 14 September to play four ODIs and one 3-day Test against Sri Lanka national side. The venues will be R. Premadasa International Stadium and Moratuwa International Stadium. This will be the first time that WCASL will be playing with national status granted to them in June. This Singer - Australia-Sri Lanka series will be the run-up to the World Cup 2005 in South Africa for which Sri Lanka is a finalist. From Sri Lanka, Australia will proceed to India. The 28 strong national pool is at practice in preparation for the on-coming tour. Many newcomers are expected to debut into the first eleven under Nihal Kodituwakku while the A team is coached by Palitha Gunasekera at the indoor nets of the Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation. The World Cup 2005 in South Africa will only have four top teams to make it to the top for the 2009 series unlike six finalists in previous World Cups. High competitive skills among teams for the top slots are expected. Sri Lanka is ranked sixth in the world and the possibility of us reaching the top four depends if we can beat South Africa in the semis according to Gwen Herat, President of the Women's Cricket Association of Sri Lanka, 'With new blood, the game can take a turn in our favour but we have to try hard, real hard.' |
