Vihara Mandhiraya opening and pinnacle unveiling ceremony

Sri Sudharmaramaya, Madoluwawa, Padukka was inaugurated on October 18, 1957 with the donation of the land by Don David Welikala, Village Headman.

The components of the Viharaya including the Vihara Mandiraya and the Sanghavasaya were constructed under the patronage of Ven. Homagama Siridhamma Nayake Thera with the blessings of the Most Venerable Heiyanthuduwe Revatha and Heiyanthuduwe Dhammarakkhitha Theras.

Ven. Siridhamma Thera set-up the Dayaka Sabhawa and the Kulangana Samithiya to carry out the religious activities of the devotees and also started the Sri Sudharmarama Daham Pasala to impart the knowledge of the Dhamma.

Elated by the progress of the Viharasthanaya Mrs. Hema Karunaratne of the village of Madoluwawa donated a valuable land to construct the Chaithya depositing the sacred relics of the Buddha.

Most Venerable Madoluwawe Sobhitha Nayake Thera, the Viharadhipathi of Sri Naga Viharaya, Kotte, reputed world over for his erudite Dhamma sermons, laid the foundation stone for the New Chaithya on November 06, 2003 as a service to the village of his birth, to make it a meritorious village and to bestow merit on his mother the late Kuruwita Arachchige Karalinahamy Mahopasikawa.

The Sacred Relic depositing ceremony and the pinnacle laying ceremony of the Chaithya thus inaugurated will take place at the auspicious time of 11.51 am on July 22, 2004.

The placing of the eyes on the Buddha Statue erected, with funds donated by the Most Venerable Madoluwawe Sobhitha Nayake Thera, at the Vihara Mandiraya of the Madoluwawa Viharasthanaya will also take place at this auspicious time.

The opening of this venerated Vihara Mandhiraya and the unveiling of the pinnacle of the Chaithya will take place under the patronage of the Mahanayake of the Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha Rajakeeya Panditha the Most Venerable Bellana Sri Gnanawimala Nayake Thera and Kelaniya Vidyalankara Parivenadhipathi and Kelaniya University Chancellor Ven. Dr. Welamitiyawe Kusaladhammabhidana Nayake Thera, at 4.00 pm, the same day.

The Viharasthana Dayake Sabha, Sri Visakha Kulangana Samithiya and Sri Sudharmarama Daham Pasala have made arrangements to hold a Gilanpasa Buddha Puja at 7.00 p.m. the same evening followed by an All Night Pirith chanting ceremony and then onwards a series of Pinkam for seven days.
