Govt. will honour every pledge given to masses

Deraniyagala Roving Corr.

All development projects initiated by the previous PA Government have been neglected by the UNP for the last two years. The people have given us the mandate to commence work on these projects. In keeping with the aspirations of the masses, we will recommence implementing the proposals neglected by the UNP Government.

We will honour every pledge given to the masses during our election campaign and will not dupe the masses as alleged by the UNP and its cronies, said Deputy Minister of Finance Rangith Siyambalapitiya addressing a reception accorded to him in Ruwanella by the people.

The Deputy Minister said although the UNP propagated that it had built the economy of the country, it was only by words and nothing had materialised in the name of peace, Ranil and his ministers spent much of their time in foreign countries spending our money.

They did nothing to ameliorate the living conditions of the poor masses. But they frightened the people by circulating falsehood that if the Alliance was installed in power, they would resume the war.

In the future, the country will never face a war, the Deputy Minister assured.

People are aware that President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga is eager to resume talks and end the ethnic problem.

It is her wish that all communities should unite and live in peace in this country, endowed with all natural resources. The President will never deviate from this commitment, he said.
