Mobitel launches ACeS Satellite services With the rapid development in the telecommunication sector the ability and need for people to communicate has shown a significant increase. This development has further increased the demand for contact no matter where a person is situated. Technologies such as Satellite telephony are now being used to ensure global contactability even to the remotest corners of the world. The use of satellite services has resulted in the provision of telephony services to communities where it was not feasible to provide fixed line or cellular phone services economically. Mobitel came forward with a technically and economically feasible proposal to provide telephony services through 40 rural sub post offices in the Matale and Moneragala districts launched its Satellite phone service called M Sat. CEO of Mobitel Lalith De Silva said, "With our strong commitment to providing telephony services to underdeveloped areas we searched for solutions that would enable Mobitel to provide services to even the remotest parts of Sri Lanka. The Satellite service provided by ACeS, which has created a niche in providing rural telephony at an affordable price in Indonesia and the Philippines, was best suited keeping these goals in mind". CEO of ACeS International Adi Rahman Adiwoso said "By making leading edge satellite technology affordable, ACeS has already transformed the lives of many rural communities and made significant contributions to rural economies in many parts of Asia. |
