BOI attracts top insurer to set up Regional Hqrs.

Norwich Union Insurance, UK confirmed the setting up off shore operations in Sri Lanka shortly, at a meeting with BOI officials, at the BOI office at the World Trade Centre recently.

The company will set up and develop a regional holding company in the country, to manage all off shore operations in India and service the customers of Norwich Union Life and Norwich Union Insurance in the UK.

"This company will thus support the UK businesses of Aviva-Norwich Union and manage Aviva's offshore business in India too" said John Hodgson, Offshoring Director, Norwich Union Insurance.

This Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) operation will include the setting up and development of a pilot financial support and administration centre in the country, which may be expanded, depending on performance.

"We have capacity for over 250 staff over the next three years", Hodgson said and added that they would be working through a local partner.

BOI Deputy Director General Promotions, Santhush Jayasuriya, said that the UK delegation first attended a roundtable discussion in Sri Lanka in September 2002, and that the Norwich Union investment was further proof of Sri Lanka being considered an attractive destination for IT and IT enabled services.

Patrick Snowball, Group Executive Director, UKGI - Aviva plc, Head of the Norwich Union, said that he had received the support of the BOI at all stages of the project.
