Nalanda is among the highest educational institutions of Sri Lanka. Over the years it has acquired an unassailable reputation of producing some national leaders who have made a substantial contribution in varied fields - politics, administration, professionalism, education, industry, business, banking, media and sports etc. My Alma Mater Nalanda, upholds the highest educational traditions and innovations of Buddhist values of Col. Henry Steele Olcott, who pioneered the Buddhist Renaissance in our country. P. de S. Kularatne was an educational stalwart who trod the path of Olcott was established in 1924 a sister school of Ananda. The special distinction which marks Nalanda is bringing into being an unparalleled love of the nation and its people. In such a context the presentation of the highest Nalanda honour which is titled "Nalanda Keerthi Sri" is an occasion that should be considered an important event. We are proud and happy an old Nalandian Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse has been selected for this great honour. Everyone should be grateful to the Principal, Hemantha Prematilaka, staff, parents, Nalandians old and present for selecting the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka for this great honour. Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse is without any doubt is a distinguished son of the soil. He is a popular Prime Minister because he has the frequency of thought of the heart beat of the masses of our land. Given this situation the honour bestowed upon the Prime Minister is not only a Nalanda occasion but a high national event. "Apadana Sobhini Panna" - Wisdom Adorns Life!
