BASL President thanks IGP President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka M. Ikram Mohamed has thanked IGP Indra De Silva for informing court yesterday that BASL member Attorney-at -law G.G. Arulpragasam had acted in the discharge of his professional duties and that no action would be taken by the Police against Mr. Arulpragasam. In a letter addressed to the IGP dated BASL President states: "We are extremely thankful to you for informing Court today, the 30th June 2004 through Mr. J. Thangavelu, DIG (Legal) that Mr. Arulpragasam had acted in the discharge of his professional duties as an Attorney-at-Law towards his client and as such no action would be taken by the Police against Mr. Arulpragasam and that his name be deleted from the Report filed in the said case". "We also wish to place on record our deep gratitude to Mr. Jayantha Wickramaratne, DIG (Crimes), Mr. J. Thangavelu, DIG (Legal) and Mr. Sirisena Herath, DIG Colombo for their co-operation extended and services rendered to us in this regard". The BASL notes that your prompt action taken in this regard will no doubt help to maintain the good and cordial relationship between the Bar and the Police Department, which is essential for the administration of Justice in this country, the letter said. |
