New ADB Country Director calls on Finance Minister by Manjula Fernando The new Asian Development Bank Country Director Ali Sandro Pio called on Fiance Minister Sarath Amunugama at his ministry on Monday. The visit was part of the official introduction of the new country director to the Sri Lankan Government. He was accompanied by ADB Deputy Director General John Sammy who arrived here especially for the event and the outgoing country Director John Cooney. The team also discussed future development assistance to Sri Lanka with Minister Amunugama, the official spokesman to the Finance Minister said. According to the Finance Ministry there are over 30 on-going development projects worth US $ 1419 million funded by the ADB in road, power, education, water supply, urban development, agriculture and the environment sectors. In addition the ADB has allocated Rs.50 million for North East reconstruction activities which includes the development of 700 kms of provincial roads and for the improvement of living conditions of the people. |
