Thurunu Shakthi Special Task Force to be established

A Thurunu Shakthi Special Task Force will be established at a ceremony to be held on July 1 at 9.30 a.m. at the Multi Purpose Hall, National Youth Services Centre (NYSC), Maharagama, said NYSC Chairman/Director General Neel Bandara Hapuhinne.

According to Mr. Hapuhinne, the prime objective of the launching of the Thurunu Shakthi Special Task Force program is to develop and instill among Sri Lanka youth a sense of discipline and an awareness of social and economic problems, fostering among Sri Lankan youth a spirit of national consciousness and a deep sense of dignity of labour.

The ultimate motive is to enable Sri Lankan youth to be professionally qualified in academic and vocational training to serve themselves and the motherland.

About 125 members of Youth Clubs scattered countrywide and 20 Assistant Directors and eight Provincial Directors will receive the opportunity to get familiarised with the functioning of the proposed Thurunu Shakthi Youth Special Task Force program.

Initially the fully fledged training would function at Heiyanthuduwa, Jinarathana (near Gangaramaya), Monaragala, Kilinochchi, Orubendiwewa, Ampara, Belwood and Sapugaskanda centres.

These centres could be patronised by youth living in Kegalle/Avissawella, Colombo-in and around Gangaramaya, Monaragala, Badulla, Maharagama, Hambantota, Hungama, Ampara, Kandy/Belwood/Hewaheta and Gampaha areas respectively. There will be a complete package of academic and vocational courses is almost every field.

After the commencement and implementation of these courses by professional instructors, the number of training centres would be further increased for the benefit of our deserving youth.

A special selection criteria is adopted for the youth at each Grama Sevaka division scattered countrywide to register at the manpower unit in each Grama Sevaka division.

To test and gauge the talents, enthusiasm and endurance of the youth at the sternest level they will be required to register at each manpower unit at the closest Grama Sevaka division.
