Sunil Mendis, new Central Bank Governor President Chandrika Kumaratunga yesterday appointed Sunil Mendis as the Governor of the Central Bank for a six year term. Mr. Mendis retired recently as Chairman of Hayley's Group of companies, one of the country's oldest and largest conglomerates. He is a member of the Association of Certified and Corporate Accountants (UK) Professional Sections 1-3. Mendis was on the board of over 100 companies and several State Institutions in Sri Lanka. He has also served on the boards of Companies in the USA, UK, Japan and Australia. Mendis will assume office as the Governor of the Central Bank on Thursday 1st July 2004. A.S. Jayewardene completed his six year term as Governor of the Bank today 30th June 2004. |
