Sai Baba, a Kaliyuga Avathar

I am happy and privileged to write an article on the eve of the opening of a new building for the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of Colombo. This center started in a private house in Kotahena area and finally ended in Kamala Mody Hall where they had Bajans and Sai activities for a long time till the time was ripe for them to have one building of their own for Sai. Land was bought and as the construction was going on one philanthropist offered to put up the building at his expense.

Classic example where Bahavan has acted through another human being. Even in India when Bahavan launches welfare projects money was flowing from all parts of the world. Bahavan always says, "I give and never get come up empty hands towards me I shall fill your hands with my grace and blessings and send you back."

Despite the advances made in the fields of science and technology the world is struggling in the grip of supreme moral and spiritual crisis. Hatred and distrust are rampant in such times Sai is the hope for millions of restless hearts.

About the above situation Bahavan in one of his discourses has mentioned thus: The world today is in the grip of a supreme moral and spiritual crisis, people everywhere are helpless and anxiously wondering what is in store for humanity. While science has overcome the barriers of time, distance and nationality, it has done one thing to promote better understating between man and man and nation to nation. Never has there been so much distrust, hatred and violence as is witnessed today in all most every country".

The oneness of all creation affirmed by the ancient seers, and sages must be expressed in a transcendental love which embraces all people regardless of creed community or language. This is Sai's message to all.

Baby's teachings based on five pillars of Prema, Sathya Shanti, Dharma, Ahimsa will raise men to a higher level by constantly reminding them of their essential divine nature and basic human qualities.

Out of the five human values, love is the core value that embraces all the other four values. Love and care are not only needed by human beings but animals and plants expect love from human beings.

In one of the summer courses a question was asked from Baba. "What are the requirements for leading an ideal life".

The requirements for leading an ideal life are,

1. Observe moderation in your intake of food

2. Keep your body in good shape

3. Perform your duties properly

4. Do not develop attachments to the body

5. Eliminate the feelings of "I" and "Mine" in all your thoughts, and deeds.

The feelings "I" and "Mine" are solely responsible for all the problems and evils prevailing in the society. Baba's advice if followed will result in ego disappearing and all will be humble and simple in their approach towards others. Which is the need of the hour.

Finally a piece of advice to devotees by Bahavan is quoted here. "There should be no difference among devotees in Sai organisations. There should be no greed for power or position. What matters is the purity, intensity and silence of the devotion and the spirit of selfness sacrifice in which each devotee renders to the needy and suffering. Swami is always with you and around you when all differences are eradicated and devotees in Sai organisations conducted themselves with selfless devotion. You will realise that Swami and you are one."

Sai's teachings are followed meticulously by the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Center of Colombo and also classes have been organised to teach human values to the young and the adult. May Bahavan's grace and blessings be showered on the center always.
