Elman Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of Aiwa Co., Ltd. of Sendai-city in Japan will launch a promotional project in collaboration with the Embassy of Sri Lanka to promote gems and jewellery from Sri Lanka in 24 different cities in Japan, a spokesman for the Embassy in Sri Lanka said.

Elman Co. Ltd., is a gem and jewellery wholeseller in Sendai-city in Japan who will launch this Sri Lanka Festival from this month under the auspices of the Sri Lanka Embassy in Tokyo, State Gem Corporation, Sri Lanka Tea Board, Ceylon Tourist Board and SriLankan Airlines.

This opportunity is also being utilised by the new Tea Promotion Unit attached to the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan to promote Ceylon Tea among the VIP clientele scheduled to visit the major gem and jewellery outlets in Osaka, Miyagi, Fukushima, Akita and Yamagata prefectures. Karunatilaka Amunugama, Sri Lanka's Ambassador in Japan will launch the promotional drive for Sri Lanka Gems and Jewellery in Sendai at a ceremony during mid July.

The 24 different shows programmed at several departmental stores and hotels and various large jewellery outlets in several cities is bound to attract many visitors, and organisers have targeted a sales volume of about 300,000 US dollars for the entire project. This event will give wide publicity for gems and jewellery from Sri Lanka and on the sidelines propaganda for Ceylon Tea as well, he said.
