Solheim visits Kilinochchi today by Ranil Wijayapala Norway Special Peace Envoy Erik Solheim who arrived Sri Lanka yesterday on a four day visit will fly to Kilinochchi today for wide ranging talks with the LTTE to explore possibilities for an early resumption of peace talks. Solheim is also scheduled to meet President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse, and Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe during his four day visit, diplomatic sources said. The Norwegian facilitators are now in the process of preparing the agenda for the resumption of peace talks between the Government and the LTTE. Sources said the facilitator's frequent visits to Sri Lanka was to sort out differences between the positions of the Government and the LTTE on the basis for the resumption of peace talks soon. Government Spokesman Minister Mangala Samaraweera told the weekly Cabinet press briefing last week, the process of preparing the agenda of the peace talks was moving ahead despite the absence of direct talks between the two parties. It is expected the LTTE will discuss the situation in the East when Solheim meets Thamilselvan today in Kilinochchi. |
