Thinakaran journalist wins merit award

Lake House journalist A.K.M. Pillai has received the Merit Certificate for Earning the Appreciation of Peers and the Public Category of Journalism Awards for Excellence - 2003, organised by the Editors Guild of Sri Lanka.

Hailing from Laksanagama, Dereniyagala, Pillai is the son of retired Plantation Officer M. Arumugam. He was educated at Sri Kathiresan Tamil Maha Vidyalayam, Deraniyagala.

He first worked as a full-time journalist at the Virakesari in 1986. Later in 1990 he joined Thinakaran, a Lake House publication. He has extensively produced reports on the ceasefire agreement signed between the previous government and the LTTE and on the peace process. Pillai is Deputy News Editor, Thinakaran Editorial.
