by Asanga Warnakulasuriya Investigations into the killing of Dhammika Amerasingha, the principal suspect in the case against former Cricket Board Chairman Thilanga Sumathipala took a new turn yesterday when three suspects wanted by Police in connection with the shooting surrendered to Colombo Crimes Division (CCD). CCD Director SSP Sarath Lugoda told the Daily News yesterday that the three suspects surrendered to Police when Police were hunting for them for the last six months. The suspects from Maligawatta and Wadduwa are said to members of the notorious underworld gang led by "Kudu Lal", the SSP said. Initial investigations revealed that a gunman identified as "Kumara" who entered the Magistrate's Court premises in early January posing as an apprentice of a lawyer shot dead Dhammika using a 9mm pistol. On the directives of Colombo DIG Sirisena Herath, the CCD Director and his team are investigating the link between the Kumara and three suspects. |
