Dinali and Druvinka excel in Malaysia The Up and coming duo Dinali De Silva of Bishop's College and Druvinka Moraes of St. Bridget's Convent combined well to thrash Kelly Leow and Grace Pang the under 14 doubles favourite pair from Singapore 7-5, 6-1, to reach the finals at the MPPJ Milo Junior Tennis Open held at the Petaling Jaya Municipal Sports Complex in Kelana Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia from June 8 to 12. Entering the finals in the doubles was an unique occasion for the duo from Sri Lanka as they made history by playing the opening game on the newly constructed grand stand Tennis court against the top seeded under 14 girls doubles pair from Malaysia. "Coming to the finals was definitely rewarding as it was our first international competition. The real challenge was to play hard courts at 35-40 degrees temperature conditions" said Sri Lanka's under 14 girls' duo. Dinali De Silva also dominated play to reach quarterfinals in the girls open singles under 14 category beating Wai Tan from Malaysia 6-2, 6-0 and thrashed 4th seed Sabrina Gill from Kuala Lampur 6-4, 7-5 in the singles quarter-finals to earn her place in the semi finals against 2nd Seed Neesha T. from Malaysia. Druvinka Moraes clinched her place beating Tiffany Loh from Singapore 6-1, 6-1 and met the number 1 seed at the quarterfinals of the girls Open Singles under 14 category. Amiritha Muttai from Holy Family Convent clinched the under 12 doubles championship partnering Malaysia's under 12 3rd seed and received a silver in the finals of girls' open singles under 12 category at the MPPJ Milo Junior Tennis Open Championship 2004. |
