Juniors strike gold in squash Binara Jayasuriya and Nirasha Guruge won gold in the Singapore Junior squash championships in Singapore. Binara beat Singapore's no. 1 Bryan Koh to take the boys under 13 final while Nirasha overcame Singapore's no. 1 Aditi Maliwal in the girls under 15 final. Tehani Guruge (girls under 17) and Chakranga Rajapakse (boys under 15) were placed third in their respective age categories. Dinusha Silva (girls mixed under 11) won the plate event. Five countries - India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the host country took part in the event. In Malaysia the Sri Lankan players had to face tough competition with over 15 countries participating. Tehani had the best performance finishing fifth in her age group while Binura was placed sixth and Nirasha seventh in their respective age groups. Nirasha will also take part in teh Asian Seniro squash championship with Kushai Daluwatte, Vidushi Gurunada and Sulakshan Abeygunawardena. |
