NPC on police transfers procedure

Referring to recent reports in the media that 225 policemen have been transferred without even the IGP's knowledge, National Police Commission (NPC) Chairman Ranjith Abeysuriya, PC, states that all decisions of the NPC's transfer committee are taken with the consent of the IGP or his representatives.

A representative of the IGP always attends the meetings of the NPC's transfers/promotions committee, Abeysuriya said. Moreover, it is a police representative who provides information on the nominated policemen to the NPC and its decisions are actually implemented by the IGP, not by the committee itself.

Therefore, there is no truth in reports that policemen can be transferred without the IGP's knowledge, Abeysuriya added.
