Training program for Telecom officials

Religious knowledge classes in temples The Kelaniya

 Sasanarakshaka Mandalaya has launched a project to start classes in religious knowledge in all temples in the area. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs and the Department of Buddhist Affairs have extended their support to this project.

The Ven. Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Nayaka Thera, Chancellor, University of Kelaniya and the Principal, Vidayalankara Pirivena, Peliyagoda is in-charge of this project.

School sans English teacher

The students of the primary section of Pinnawela Rajapola MV in Waga has no way of learning the English language due to the absence of an English teacher. The children of year 3 to 5 are the most affected. Although the English teacher of the section was transferred in last November no action has been taken by the Homagama Zonal Education Office to fill the vacancy despite several requests by the school principal and parents.

Tennekumbura YMMA scholarships award ceremony

We have learned the biographies of people who have risen to great positions in life through education. Abraham Lincoln is often quoted as an example of a person who rose to the very top in society through education and determination said Zain Fahmy, Principal, Greenwood International School, Matale. Mr. Fahmy was addressing a higher education scholarship awards ceremony organised by the central Tennekumbura YMMA at its head office in Kandy recently.

Kidney patient needs help

Dr. M.A.L. Rajapaksha of 212/A, Niwandama Ja-Ela is suffering from chronic renal failure. Doctors treating him have recommended a kidney transplant immediately to save his life. He needs an 'O Positive' kidney and anyone is willing to donate a kidney is requested to contact him on Tel. No. 2235930.

The transplant operation will cost around Rupees 800,000 and the requests philanthropists and the general public to contribute whatever financial contributions possible to make-up this sum. All contributions should be sent to A/C Number 239-207-050891-0 at the People's Bank Ja-Ela branch.
