New GMOA Gen. Sec. urges health authorities against taking ad-hoc measures by Bharatha Malawaraarachchi The newly appointed General Secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association(GMOA) Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya yesterday urged the Health authorities against taking ad-hoc measures in their efforts to resolve the salary anomalies in the health sector. "We are urging the Ministry to implement recommendations of a duly appointed committee rather than making ad-hoc recommendations by a Ministerial committee, Dr. Padeniya told the Daily News after being appointed as the new General Secretary at the GMOA's 78 Annual General Meeting held on Saturday. Dr.Padeniya said the ad-hoc circulars issued by the Ministry based on the recommendations of Ministerial and other committees had created problems in the health sector. "Permanent solutions should be granted through an acceptable committee covering the whole sector," he added. Dr. Padeniya also requested the Ministry officials not to grant any interim measures until the Cabinet appointed Salary Revision committee submits its recommendations. "Any recommendation should be based on the acceptable salary revision theories and international criteria," he added. Earlier, the GMOA threatened to resort to strong trade union action if any interim allowance is granted to any category of health workers prior to the recommendation of the Cabinet appointed Salary Revision Committee. Amongst the newly appointed office bearers of the GMOA are Dr. Kumar Weerasekera (President), Dr. S.S. Ranamukaarachchi(Vice President), Dr. P.G.N. Rathnasena (Vice President), Dr. Uditha Herath(Assistant Secretary), Dr. Y. Senaratne(Ass. Secretary), Dr. Dhammika Pathirana(Asst. Secretary), Dr. Lakshman Edirisinghe (Ass. Secretary) and Dr. H.B.J.C. Ariyaratne (Treasurer). |
