MBSL Total Productive Maintenance seminar

Merchant Bank of Sri Lanka Limited (MBSL) will hold a two-day intensive seminar on Total Productive Maintenance on June 21 and 22. It will be conducted by Merchant Bank MD/CEO Sunil G. Wijesinha and R. Mukundan, a certified trainer of Japan Institute of Plant Management (JIPM).

In a competitive business scenario, organisations world-wide are focusing on cost optimisation through elimination of all kinds of waste in manufacturing activities. Also, with the progress of automation and new manufacturing technologies, the demand for the job content and expertise from shop floor personnel has now changed and needs to be updated.

The concept of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) was initiated in Japan during 1971 based on the preventive maintenance measures developed in USA in the '50s, but with the typical Japanese approach of getting all employees involved. TPM goes beyond the engineering scope and is considered a new management system at keeping the plant and equipment at peak efficiency.

TPM aims at maximising equipment efficiency and establishing the total system of PM intended for equipment life cycle. TPM builds a mechanism at the workplace and in the product to prevent all types of losses before hand and thus leading to zero accident, zero defect and zero breakdown covering the entire life cycle of the production system.
