PC House to enter SAARC regional market soon By Sudarshana Perera PC House (Pvt) Ltd will enter the SAARC regional market soon with its locally innovated branded computers 'Panora' while making information technology affordable. The countries earmarked are India, Pakistan, the Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal and Myanmar. The firm is also targeting to widen their horizons with Panora branded high end products such as Lap Tops and Servers. PC House has already commenced manufacturing computers in partnership with Intel, Microsoft and Gigabyte at a plant in Taiwan and will set up its own manufacturing plant in Sri Lanka soon. This was made know at a launch at the Hotel Hilton on Thursday. CEO of PC House, S.H. Mohamed Rishan said that his company is geared to become a key stakeholder towards the development of the ICT industry and would play a pivotal role in bridging the digital divide in the country.
Rishan said that the launch of 'Panora' branded computers follows 15 months of test marketing and is the long awaited answer to the growing demand for good quality locally developed computers for Sri Lankan users. While assembled computers play the role of a 'price fighter' among cost-conscious buyers, the comparatively more expensive branded computers are known for their reliability and high quality performance. During the test marketing period, 'Panora' won the confidence of its users, while parallely gaining acceptance and reputation for its reliability, he said. "Most of the essential PC components such as motherboard, graphics audio, audio, LAN, power supply, optical storage drive, and casing are pre-assembled, thus allowing users to own reliable systems. This is one of the key features of the 'Panora' computer", he said. Minister of Science and Technology Prof. Tissa Vitharana commended PC House for its remarkable performance and for taking steps to take ICT to rural areas. Director Sales, Intel Technologies (I) Pvt. Ltd. G.B. Kumar said powered by Intel Pentium 4 processors the Panora G Max series are Panora's response to professionals in search of a comprehensive work tool that features high performance. 'Panora' also accompanies solid features that can double as an impressive business and home entertainment. General Manager PC House Saliya Wimalaratne said that Panora's vision was to be a nationally accepted computer system. "As the globally accepted strategy, PC House is outsourcing 'Panora' computer manufacturing to Gigabyte Technology, Taiwan, which manufactures 'Panora' Systems according to guidelines specified by PC House".
