Sri Lanka relay team placed fourth Sunil Abeyawardana from Malaysia Sri Lanka's 4X400 metre relay team failed to live upto expectations on the final day of Asian Junior Athletic Champions when they were placed fourth behind Saudi Arabia, India and Thailand. Winners in this event Saudi Arabia's team clocked 3.09:02 secs, while Sri Lanka's team was able to record a time of 3.15:16 secs. Lankan team comprised of Pasinadee Rubesinghe, Pubudu Sampath, Indika Chandrasiri and silver medallist in the 400 metres Manoj Pushpakumara. Meanwhile Lankan girl Kalani Seneviratne who qualified to run in the final too did not do well when clocked on 12.23 secs for the event and was placed seventh. Wang Wen Shan and Zou Yingting from China went away with the gold and silver medal clocking 11.61 and 11.72 secs respectively. Third placed Siti Fatima Mohamad from lost country Malaysia took the bronze when she clocked 12.12 secs. China had the highest tally of medals 37 (16 gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze) while Saudi Arabia bagged 14 medals under their belt. Sri Lanka could manage only a silver at this meet. Sixteen countries ended the meet empty handed. |
