LTTE sea movement cancelled by Ranil Wijayapala The LTTE yesterday cancelled their much awaited sea movement from Mullaitivu to Ilankanthai as they got late to start their planned movement on time to reach Ilankanathai before dark, a Navy Spokesman Commander Jayantha Perera told the Daily News yesterday. He said there had been no cadres on board the three LTTE boats which turned up on Mullaitivu seas around 1.30 p.m. yesterday, though they made a request to transport 90 cadres from Mullaitivu to Ilankanthai. The LTTE boats which turned up at Mullaitivu had told the Navy that they want to reach Ilankanthai before dark to transport 30 LTTE cadres from Ilankanthai to Mullaitivu on the following day. However, according to military sources the Navy has disagreed with the LTTE to escort three boats to Ilankanthai to transport 30 odd LTTE cadres from Ilankanthai to Mullaitivu claiming that one boat was enough for the purpose. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Spokeswoman Disa Finnboga told the Daily News yesterday that the planned sea movement by the LTTE was cancelled yesterday due to bad weather and rough sea conditions. "The sea movement will be decided on the weather conditions", Finnboga added. However, the Navy ruled out the possibility of the sea movement taking place today as the Navy was not in a position to provide an escort to the LTTE. |
