by Stanley Samarasinghe Counsel appearing in the contempt of court case against Nuwara Eliya District MP and former Minister S. B. Dissanayake were given an opportunity on Monday to view the relevant video tapes of the speech made by him at a Vap Magul ceremony at Habaraduwa. They viewed the video tapes to ascertain whether it contained any derogatory remarks on the Supreme Court or any words had been supplanted in the tapes submitted in court to implicate him as claimed by him. The replay of the tapes was held from 4 to 4.45 p.m. on Monday at hall No. 4 of the Supreme Court complex under the supervision of the Registrar of the Supreme Court Bandula Atapattu. In this case, Dissanayake has been asked to show cause as to why he should not be punished for contempt of the Supreme Court for certain remarks and references made in respect of court at a speech made by him at a Vap Magul ceremony at Habaraduwa. When the case was called on June 1, Dissanayake who appeared in Court submitted that he did not make any derogatory remarks in his original speech and alleged that certain words had been supplanted on the tapes produced in Court to maliciously implicate him. |
