The identification parade was held in respect of one of the suspects before the Gangodawila Additional Magistrate Vijitha Seneviratne on an application by police.

All four suspects including Chanaka Mahesh Kumara, Deva Lochana Ranasinghe and Ranil Lasantha Jayawardena, final year students at the Sri Jayawardhanapura University who were also alleged to have been involved in the slaying were remanded till June 29.

The four suspects arrested by Mirihana police last Monday in connection with Sampath's killing on June 5 were remanded at the Welikada remand prison.

Final year undergraduate Sampath, a former student union leader, was allegedly stabbed to death by a group of students from a rival faction inside the university premises.

The Magistrate postponed the inquiry till June 29 when police informed that one of the accused, Chanaka Mahesh Kumara was not produced in court due to ill health.

Meanwhile, the committee appointed to recommend an action plan to combat violence in universities and measures to resolve the current crisis in the Sri Jayawardhanapura University held another meeting at Isurupaya yesterday.

They were due to hand over their final report this week.
