Spinners' academy in honour of Muralitharan

Sri Lanka Cricket is pleased to announce of its latest decision to dedicate a proposed Spinners' academy to the name "Muttiah Muralitharan'.

It is the view of Sri Lanka Cricket that by naming this academy in honour of Muttiah Muralitharan, it would be paying the world's highest Test wicket taker yet another tribute for his outstanding achievement and for the glory brought to Sri Lanka.

The proposed Academy will be either established in Murali's home town in kandy or in Colombo. Sri Lanka Cricket has also received the fullest backing and blessings of Jeewan Kumaratunge, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports for this project.

A Committee comprising M/s Michael de Zoysa, Selva Perumal, Jayananda Warnaweera, Lucian Merinnege, Mahinda Wijesinghe and Damian Fernando have been appointed to make initial preparations for this important project which will be run on the same lines of the MRF Academy of India.

Sri Lanka Cricket is confident of raising the required funds for this important project both internationally and locally.
