Scheduled LTTE sea movement likely to take place today on Govt. condition by Ranil Wijayapala The LTTE's scheduled sea movement from Mullaitivu to Ilankanthai in the East is likely to take place today under the condition laid down by the Government that the LTTE cadres be transported on June 15 and the return journey be made on the following day. "We are not allowing the LTTE vessels to stay two or three days as requested by them", Defence Secretary Cyril Herath told the Daily News last night. The Government has given approval for the LTTE to transport 90 LTTE cadres from Mullaitivu to Ilankanthai today (June 15) and the return journey to be made on June 16 with 20 LTTE cadres on board. The Ministry of Defence has rejected the LTTE's request that 90 LTTE cadres be transported from Mullaitivu to Ilankanthai on June 15 and the three vessels return on June 18 from Ilankanthai to Mullaitivu. "The LTTE sea movement will take place today as approved by the Defence Ministry", Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission Spokeswoman Disa Finnboga told the Daily News last night. SLMM Chief Tryggve Tellefsen, Defence Secretary Cyril Herath, Navy Commander Vice Admiral Daya Sandagiri and Head of Secretariat for Coordinating the Peace Process Jayantha Dhanapala had met yesterday to discuss the issue of the LTTE sea movement and it has been agreed to allow the LTTE to transport their cadres on June 15 and 16. However, the LTTE reportedly have made another request later in the day that they be allowed to station three vessels for two days at Ilankanthai, after their movement from Mullaitivu on June 15 and to make their return journey on June 18, which the Government has flatly rejected. Navy Commander Vice Admiral Daya Sandagiri on Saturday objected to the LTTE's scheduled sea movement from Mullaitivu to the East since they wanted to transport their cadres from Mullaitivu to the East on June 12 and to make their return journey on the 15. |
