Ceylon Chamber of Commerce to continue management of 'JobsNet' project The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) signed an MoU with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) recently to continue the management of JobsNet, The National Employment Sourcing and Delivery System. The Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) will provide funding for the project. JobsNet would be further strengthened in the next two years to provide modern employment services and maximise outreach to the masses through extensive campaigning. The service centre network of JobsNet will expand from 17 to 19 with the setting up of centres in Jaffna and Batticaloa within the next year. JobsNet is the implementation of initiative 7, Creation of an Employment Sourcing and Delivery System- under the National Employment Policy of Sri Lanka. Owned by the Ministry of Labour Relations and Foreign Employment, it benefits job seekers, local and foreign employers and self-employment seekers by providing referrals for jobs and training, information, advice and career guidance, with a web interface at www.jobsnet.lk. The implementation of the project and its management was outsourced to The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce after its launch with the Royal Norwegian Aid Agency (NORAD) funding the first year of operations. The project, which commenced in January 2003, has a branch network of 17 Centres in 17 Districts. It currently has a database of over 75,000 registered job seekers. Over 33,000 have been referred to various employment opportunities in the private sector. The website caters to jobseekers and employers alike enabling various search functions catering to specific requirements of both parties such as registration, job postings, job search, candidate search and qualification demand. |
