Seafood Exporters Assn. revived

As a part of its program to support and develop the Seafood Exports Sector in the country,The Sri Lanka Export Development Board is facilitating the revival of Seafood Exporters'Association which was dormant for a few years.

Seafood Exports is considered a very important export sector in the economy. There is a marked improvement in the increase in the value of earnings from the exports of Seafood in 2003 by 19.2% over 2002.

The total export earnings to the country in 2003 was valued at US$92.68 million as against US$ 77.74 Mn in 2002.

Active participation of the Association represented by the Seafood Exporter Community in Policy Planning and Implementation of Development Programs for the sector is considered vital in order to sustain the growth momentum achieved by the sector.

The newly formed committee resolved that all Seafood Exporters must get together and work towards developing the industry. The members feel that it is essential to carry out a membership drive to strengthen the Association and to expand its services among all involved in Seafood Exports.
