Tikiri Kobbekaduwa heads TSDA Tikiri Kobbekaduwa, an experienced marketer in promotion and trade concepts has been appointed as Chairman of Tea Smallholdings Development Authority (TSDA).
Kobbekaduwa told the Daily News that he was fully committed to eliminate corruption and wastage while broadbasing its services to smallholders. He said that his institution would work fast to gain confidence of the tea community which is a sine quo non to ensure productivity and efficiency in the sector. "I would devise a strategy to earn Rs. 1.00 for Rs. .75 the authority incurs for the welfare of smallholders. During the last two to three years the allocated cost was not met with targeted results and we want to revive this important segment which consist of 70% of production of tea in the country", he said. "Plans would also be geared to replanting and increase crops and yielding capacities. Among them is the increased productivity in the mid grown areas. Discrepancies have occurred at the authority and we will take swift action to ensure transparency and efficiency. I would bring in new business concepts to make the authority viable and people-friendly", he said. Kobbekaduwa who worked at Uniliver (Pvt) Ltd and Bio-Tech in marketing capacities is also the CEO of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (ANCL).(SP) |
