News Business Features Editorial Security Politics World Letters Sports Obituaries | Five - year plan to develop Wayamba Kuliyapitiya Group Correspondent The Wayamba Governor, Dharmadasa Wanniaratchi presenting the Policy Statement of the fourth North Western Provincial Council stated that the PC would formulate a five-year development plan covering the fields under the purview of the Council to solve social, economical and cultural problems confronting the people in Wayamba. "This plan would be taken as an approach to solve the most critical unemployment problem in the Province. The Council had identified a number of approaches to solve problems in agriculture, animal husbandry, rural industries and transport sectors. In addition the promotion of tourism in Wayamba would be helpful to find self-employment opportunities for the skilled and enterprising youth. Facilities would be provided by the Authorities and the Departments under the Provincial Council for the skilled and talented youths to inaugurate self-employment projects. The Provincial Councils were inaugurated in 1988. This Policy Statement is not to evaluate the success of the services rendered by the Councils in the past. But it is clear that the Provincial Councils found it difficult and failed to fulfil the social, economical and cultural aspirations of the people. That is the reality and the tragedy of the Provincial Council system. The fourth Wayamba Provincial Council however would learn from the previous experiences and rectify the errors committed in the past and take necessary positive and productive steps so solve the major problems pertaining to the Wayamba people. The Council would follow a non-discriminatory policy on communal and religious grounds. All would be treated reasonably. So the people in Wayamba would live in harmony. The Policy Statement was dealing with proposed development strategies covering 20 sectors coming under the purview of the Council. The vision of the PC is to bring about the prosperity to the Wayamba people. The fourth Wayamba Provincial Council will dedicate to make that vision a reality, The Policy Statement added. Wayamba Chief Minister Athula Wijesinghe thanked the Governor for presenting the policy statement. |
