Outstation Paddlers impress at trials by Chris Dhambarage Outstation players dominated the first two trials conducted by the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka (TTASL) in preparation for the South Asian table tennis team championships which will be held from July 16 to 18 and for the tenth Asian junior championships from July 19 to 24 in New Delhi, India. The TTASL has decided to send a boys and girls team for these two tournaments. In the boys trials held at S. Thomas' College indoor stadium, Mount Lavinia G. P. H. Sajith of Sri Devananda College Ambalangoda and G. M. Liyanage of Dharmaraja College Kandy came on top winning a total of 12 matches. Sajith won seven games in the first trial and followed up with five wins in the second trial. Liyanage who won five matches in the first trial performed better in the second trial and went on to win seven games. Tharindu Samaraweera of S. Thomas' College Mount Lavinia was placed third with a total of eleven victories from the two trials. He scored six wins in the first trial and recorded a further five wins in the second trial. Milinda Lakshitha of D. S. Senanayake College also registered six victories in the first trial but managed to score only three wins during the second trials. Hasitha Samaraweera of Dharmaraja College Kandy together with Chameera Chaturanga (Sri Devananda College) and Samuditha Ishan (Royal College) all finished with six victories each. Meanwhile Ishara Madurangi of Sri Devananda College Ambalangoda and Kalpani Herath of Girls High School Kandy took major honours in the girls trials with a total of fourteen victories each. Madurangi came on top with eight wins in the first trial but won only six matches in the second trial. Herath who won six matches in the first trial bounced back with eight victories during the second trial. A. C. K. Udugama of Devi Balika Vidyalaya Colombo was placed third with five victories each from the two trials. She was followed by Sanduni Kavitilleke of Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda who finished with nine victories from the two trials. Ruhansi Wijekoon of Maliyadeva BMV Kurunegala won eight matches while Nadini Abeygunawardena recorded five victories. They were followed by Nelumi Gunasekera of Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda, Kumarini Basnayake of Maliyadeva BMV and Srimali Wimalaratne of Holy Family Convent Kurunegala with four victories each from the two trials. |
