Improvements to the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Due to the increasing number of documents submitted to the Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for attestation and with a view to improving speed and efficiency, the Division is in the process of constructing additional counters. Once construction is completed, the Consular Affairs Division would be in a position to process the documents more efficiently within a few hours. ######## Sri Lankan invited to participate in 16th Session of Cairo International Festival for experimental Theatre. The 16th Session of Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre is scheduled to be held from 20-30 September 2004. The Egyptian Ministry of Culture has extended an invitation to Sri Lanka to send an experimental theatrical troupe to represent Sri Lanka at this event. The Ministry of Culture will extend local hospitality. The number of members should not exceed 15, including actors, technicians and administrators. Further information could be obtained from Middle East and Africa Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. ####### Saudi Hajj Ministry and Sri Lankan delegation to discuss arrangements for Hajj pilgrims Arrangements have been made for a meeting between the Hajj Ministry of Saudi Arabia and an official Hajj delegation from Sri Lanka on September 5, 2004 to discuss matters relating to Hajj pilgrims next year. A five-member Sri Lankan delegation and the Saudi Hajj Ministry are expected to sign an agreement on the proposed arrangements. Details regarding the delegation are being finalized in consultation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Muslim Religious Affairs. ######## Visit of Indonesian Foreign Ministry Officials Mr. Sanusi, Director of the South and Central Asia Bureau of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry who was on a three-day visit to Sri Lanka together with officials of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry held bilateral consultations with the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs H.K.J.R. Bandara and other senior officials last week. During talks Indonesian officials expressed keenness to increase trade and investment in Sri Lanka, particularly in investing in large infrastructure projects such as road, bridge and highway building projects. Both sides expressed interest in promoting tourism and the need to have a regular air link. The delegation also had a meeting with the Chairman of the BoI. Sri Lanka sought Indonesian assistance to make Sri Lanka's furniture industry competitive in the International market by learning from Indonesian craftsmen. The two countries agreed to further strengthen overall bilateral relations in particular in the economic sphere. They expressed willingness to negotiate bilateral agreements relating to combating terrorism, human smuggling and drug trafficking. |
